A New Step in Internationalisation: Memorandum of Understanding Signed with Georgia


Istanbul Gelisim University continues its determination to achieve its goal of becoming a strong university in the international arena. In this context, a memorandum of understanding was signed with Kutaisi University in Georgia on 12 February 2024. Thus, IECO has strengthened its partnerships in Eastern Europe.


Istanbul Gelisim University continues its determination to achieve its goal of becoming a strong university in the international arena.  In this context, a memorandum of understanding was signed with Kutaisi University in Georgia on 12 February 2024. Thus, IECO has strengthened its partnerships in Eastern Europe.
Kutaisi University is Georgia’s leading and top-ranked private university. It was founded in 1991 by Valerian Kelbakiani and Revaz Laghidze as the “Kutaisi Institute of Law and Economics”. In 1992, The institute was renamed Kutaisi University of Law and Economics and finally, its called “Kutaisi University” in 2010. It was the first higher educational university in the western part of Georgia. The university is located in Kutaisi City, the second-largest city in Georgia.
Kutaisi University Georgia UNIK is a reputed & prominent member of the European University Association as an individual associate member since October 29, 2021.The university has two faculties: The faculty of Social Sciences, Law and Business and the Faculty of Medicine, which currently provide eight higher education programs. The higher education programs are offered in both Georgian and English languages. The aim of the university is to make it an educational hub with an international ambience that’s why it welcomes talented & passionate students from all over the world. International students who come here for higher studies have so many opportunities including full-fledged student life and career development possibilities. The university is approved by top international & European medical and educational organisations including the World Health Organization (WHO), ECFMG, Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) and the National Medical Commission (NMC).
Within the scope of the partnership, academic, scientific and cultural cooperation; student and staff exchange issues were discussed. It was signed on 12 February 2024 between the president Lasha Kandelakishvili on behalf of Kutaisi University and Istanbul Gelisim University Rector Bahri Şahin. Bilateral Cooperation Agreements are as important as Erasmus+ agreements in increasing the recognition and prestige of our university, and as UDİO-K, we continue to increase our activity not only in the European continent but also in many international continents.
